276 did perish, but compare it to the California wildfires by PG&E and you will see a similar pattern. So if one points out Texas (which they are free to) one better point out California.
The reality is the Texas Power Grid and generation exceeds the combined power generation of both California and Florida combined (#2 and #3).
If you drive through Northern Texas (NW of Dallas/Ft. Worth), you will see a number of windmills and a dual redundant renewable infrastructure that costed tens of billions and was paid by the energy customers and companies.
During snowmeggadan, we were out for a maximum of 90 minutes the entire week for planned roll outs. The issues were due to the way the ground shifts, all pipes for water and other things were not deep enough to survive the cold.
So the reality is the most innovation for grid and power generation in the USA is done in Texas, and if Texas fails given the calamities (climate) other areas of the country will fare far worse.
There is a lot of misinformation out there, and if other states dealt with the population growth which radically increases the power needs, they should be amazed at what is being accomplished.
E.g. Multiple major manufacturing facilities are being expanded and created in this area which requires tremendous power needs. In my neck of the woods, TI is building a $29.4 billion dollar chip facility which will consume a lot of power. This will rely on renewables and natural gas to be satisified.
