Any incumbent politician is at fault (period).
Winter is here (using my GOT voice), and it won't get better. Talked to my parents about this and I shared my sliced view.
My question, how does the country expect to generate sufficient demand and tax dollars, when we have only matched birth replacement rates (with immigration to boot) twice since 1973.
Remember how folks stated, too many people on the planet? Less is best? Guess what, the shambles of entitlements was planned on a 3:1 (2.1:1 is replacement) and all estimates assumed replacement rates for all entitlements and for the progressive tax code to work.
COVID hit and the boomers said ... thank you bye bye now, and left the worker setup.
The same happy spin which you wrote too was used after the 2008 crash. I remember calling out (and was chastised for hating Obama, the country, people or being dark and needing therapy) that all the great improvements in UE rates was due to the labor participation dropping 1% for 1%. Then any new great jobs, were replaced with service based jobs.
I want to meet those people now and say "ok assholes" here is the proof I was right, look at what happened with a black swan event (Covid).
One can be positive, but one has to be realistic, and the reality is that the truly happy positive people are delusional, and the tag they wear? I am of party X or Y in the USA.
When we were in this mess the last time what happened? World War. That was the only thing that snapped everything back economically, but at what cost?
The thing is critical thinking won't be shown, nor real history in our school so all we have is happy juice and reality TV and whatever echo chamber people wish to live in.
Is this fixable? You betcha. I am gain, I used to be a GOP person and switched parties (and now I get blasted in email saying ... "say it ain't so you are a democrat now?)
But lets be real, the DNC is just as bad as the GOP, and anyone that says "Trump" or no way ... needs to review the history of politics.
As for me, Flat + VAT and UBI with no deductions, and tariff countries that fail to have common worker protection (cough cough no slave labor), and lets do renewables, but lets source the resources in part from our country using our morals and standards.
That means a lot of people will have to be integrated into work and paying taxes, which if you do the math not many do.
Huh? 1/2 of America doesn't file taxes, 1/2 of the 1/2 that do have a negative tax rate to 3% take out (this includes soc sec and medicare taxes [which means 1/2 of the required payout is paid by the govt]). Top 10% pays 70% of all taxes, and guess what that number comes to ... 15 million people in the country, which oddly has 70% of the assets ...
