Exactly, and what is ironically funny is those in echo chambers mock their reverse doppelgängers of life for their naivety.
I have observed similar patterns to you, but luckily I am not in the writing business, but I take pleasure in sharing my inner self through my poetry, my sensuality through my erotic poems, and my kindness through comments and anonymous gifts.

Where people put the bank in illusion, those that are dressed in it daily that through enthusiastic consent can state I am going to provide you the illusion and you are going to have your breath taken away.
I am not super popular on this platform, but it doesn't bother me too much. Why? Because those that follow and engage with me are usually going to be high-quality partners and people in life. This is what matters most to me.
What drives my passion? Brilliant and intelligent and deeply layered people with kindness and empathy, and if they have strong femininity? Oh my god, I will not be able to get out of my chair.
So while folks tune in to mesmerism at its finest and are enthralled, I find e.g. those that slice and dice with intellectual integrity and depth to floor me to the ground like never before.
My adage is this, surround yourself with people that make you want to want to be a better man. My editor for a few of the publications I write on does, your writing "definitely". Plus there are many other people with a depth of character that just makes me go wow.
But sadly, the pool of those people is not there, and as always the ones with the bountiful money don't usually have those attributes, which sucks.
Some days when life is really boring (or e.g. I have to record my wife riding a horse around and around and around taking videos so she can see the faults in an animal.), I daydream.
What people would I love to be trapped on a cruise ship or island for the rest of my life like a dystopian novel? I think man, can you imagine the discussions, the intimacy, the active listening, the fun ...
But alas, we are Idoicracy island where you and are drinking water, shaking our heads watching politicians tell people to enhance the farm yield of intelligence by pouring Gatorade on the fields of smarts.
But on the flip side given your voracious researching and writing and editing and drawing and and and (well you know a lot of things), you get to see the true gems in life.
Like e.g. being able to see and read the layers I put int my poetry, which I definitely do ... just like you have the depth of writing a character that is the way to truly mesmerize this guy sitting on a keyboard in Texas saying ... way to go Carlyn ...
