Friends are precious. So if a person finds themselves in a situation like this, one should continue to be friends and try to be there for the person and vice versa. That doesn’t mean the person who wants something more should do anything radical, but continue to be a friend.

After time passes and trust is built, one could ask the friend for help in finding “someone” like them for dating. The advice maybe enlightening.
