Given how society educates and trains the genders, it is what I would expect. The interesting part is/if/when more equality happens does it reflect it in marriage and partnership. I believe initially it will make it worse as people will have higher expectations for their partners, and when that happens the supply of "high" quality partners goes down further.
Women (on average) in the society have been more verbal and communicative over relationship issues, so there is more information on the state of heterosexual relationships from a woman POV. This leads to the bias which I believe you are writing towards (observed).
I do believe society will care a lot more now that the boomers are all retired and the net-net effect of low birth rates will effect the social systems at play. Folks will say 'crap' not enough workers and then it will focus in these areas, and if not done correctly will make it worse.
