I always had a rule of thumb for friends. 1/2 your age plus seven.

Now there are exceptions to the rule but it usually takes something to bond with action oriented.

If it doesn’t it is just purely list driven which at some point the high hopes go away to be replaced with the low OMFG …

If you are a parent then the realization you just nailed your child peer and friend may come to light, but if they are above 18 and an adult with consent then it is ok.

As for me, I need connection and that comes from the ability to have a shared experience which similar ages matter, but at some point age goes away as we tilt near the end.
