I have a joke about technical folks. The level of social ineptitudes rises with the level of technical ability.
Does it make it valid or real or a good excuse (absolutely not). The reality is the technical fields do need a geek woman and a different view point in the mix. There is zero wrong with that, but with that takes social plus technical skills which is a rarity as most of those with it, leave to become managers.
I am lucky in my life to have a kickass wife who can do plumbing and mechanical stuff and a cooking. Where I super suck at those things. I am great at all things electronic and computer and am lucky to make a really good living.
I try to remind her that she is awesome and I am lucky, and of course she reminds me amply about my failures :). Professionally, I see what the auther is saying, and given I work remote, I constantly get talked down as I am ‘not in person’. I do know it is not the same thing, but I get the disconnect and it sucks 100%.
