I wish there was a way to talk to this to the uninitiated without using the words Patriarchy or Toxic Masculinity. When I was in therapy this term was brought up (2016), and the therapist (a woman) stated she didn’t like the term because it lacked one important word “culture”. i.e. Toxic Culture of Masculinity. Her fear (and she used it to gauge how serious I was with therapy) was it shut down men from actually listening.
