If one removes gender from the discussion (whether from a female or male author), one will see a common thread that applies to all genders.
The thing is guys (today) are in a driver seat in a way, because the bar and expectations are so radically low, the perceived supply of men that fit the definition you describe are extremely rare.
I have a running joke in that the urban definition of unicorn is wrong. It is an empathic man.
The interesting (not really but the word fits) observation is that I believe with equality coming to the forefront gender wise, women are realizing what men have felt for decades/centuries. Life is harsh and sucks and everyone is replaceable/disposable. Now that it is being seen, some folks are like we need to fix it “now”, and for one side of the gender for which got the lion share of the blame … they are saying … nope and the other sides says well “fuck”.
