IMO, it is because you (and I have done the same) am fantasizing about what kind of life the combination the two of you could have had if he felt exactly like you did.

In love with the fantasy not the person is my short answer.

It is well documented in life men and how they objectify women (or men) they desire.

I believe the other aspect for women is they objectify the possible relationship and potential of the future with another partner but never the person/individual since it violates body autonomy.
