So something different for me, instead of digging into the article, I wanted to grab the questions and answer them ..
1. What do you think about Black Lives Matter?
I think it was an important movement for people to process and handle the latent systemic racism that is still prevalent in our society. It allowed people to get reinvigorated into the pain and suffering still very much prevalent in our society
2. Do you think students should learn about racism?
Yes. There should be courses that teach a full rang of history where it shows how slavery happened, how folks in power even used immigrants at their peril (this even can go into the chinese, irish, italians and other aspects over the full arc of history).
There should also be discussions about how the impact of asset destruction as seen in Oklahoma and other cities through the 20th century maimed blacks, native americans, mexicans and others too.
3. Have you ever met a racist person or overheard something racist?
Yes, most definitely. When I was in high school, I requested to audit a Black Heritage Group and the rewarding part of it was feeling that state of being the only one in a group. I also found out I lost white friends and others that mocked me.
I struggled to process it as given I am a white male and I am very peaceful a person it was hard to handle. Racism in my family (not parents) caused me also to not go forward with a black woman I loved in college so it impacts us in awful ways ...
