The most important thing folks can do is in more liberal states is to codify into law and constitution if possible the rights they desire.
They also need to codify in the ability to block persecution of those that use the services of a state from being executed (warrants etc).
People seem to not understand (not implying you mind you) that the USA is not a democracy. We are a republic compromised of 50 states and federal terrirorites.
People get their citizenship and rights either from the state they live in (which affords a higher protection and more access and control) or from the federal government.
E.g. Puerto Rico can vote in the election but the get no representation in congress/senate, but they don't have to pay taxes.
Native American Terrioritories are the same thing.
So while it doesn't seem moral or ethical, the most important thing people can do is to move and live and work with their state governments to define "exactly" the freedoms they want, and protect them like hell. Provide safe harbor and then go on and live their lives trying to improve the social and economic situation in their state.
The issue as always is the apathy in the country is so great that it allows a 22% majority to rule as a super majority.
IMO, if we desired to fix things better, we should look into mandatory voting and fix the voting setup. One can compromise and state "ID's" are required neutralizing divergent voices on voting, but make it mandatory and my guess is you will see the edge crazy voices from the far right and far left get put to the side while the silent majority which is the apathetic ones share their views.
This week was fucked up but provided and education experience for quite a few Americans who are not remembering their civics lessons.
Inalienable rights get the override protection even over states rights. The fact that it was never codified that women should be able to "self-defend" their bodies with arms using scalpels and drugs, was the fatal flaw over the near 50 year reign of Roe vs. Wade, which ironically got spawned from Texas.
Folks let their guard down not trying to improve it and a 30 year plan apparantly was executed by the GOP to change this ... and here we sit.
Now folks have a right to tell those who hide their anti-abortion views with a pro-life blanket (yet support capital punishment, no gun control, etc) to be called out as either sexist or lacking a true pro-life view which makes them hypocritical.
One can go to a religious person and state you are against abortion, ok ... do you own a gun? Well you are not very religious are you, since you are pro-death ....
