When JIT was coming into play (1990s) I was in College. I actually took the counter (the only one in the class) that JIT was inherently flawed and would lead to a catastrophic failure.

I lost the debate, they stated it was impossible as the risk was partitioned out globally.

I used that failure in all of my designs for high tech, and while everyone failed in the areas I worked. I kept going on and surviving.

It would be great to go back in time and say "ha" ...

Another fun point. Remember when wall street and the media lauded GM for having enough spare parts on their factory warehouses to actually build another car? (2008-2010)
